Questions About Egyptian History
By Dennis Balthaser
A few days ago I received an email from Gerry Cannon, who lives in Spain, commenting on my web site. He thought I might be interested in his work on Egyptian topics. Having had an interest in Egypt for many years myself, and written several articles about the pyramids and sphinx, I was anxious to continue communicating with him. The amount of information he has shared with me in this short period of time is truly amazing, and could well change much of our thinking about Egypt and its history.
A few of the topics he mentioned in that first email, were his beliefs (and mine), that Egyptians could not have built the pyramids or sphinx; the possible location of a second sphinx on the Giza plateau; and the Ark of the Covenant’s location in the western desert. That was a lot of information in that short paragraph to digest, but he also indicated he has been working on those topics for the past 18 years. For me, that generated an interest into some things I had not heard before, and I wanted to know more. Gerry’s web site is www.gerrysarkquest.com, which I highly recommend to learn more about his work.
What we have in common is our belief is that the time frame for building the 3 large pyramids, as well as the sphinx, is thousands of years older than we have been led to believe. He also found an unexplored mound of dirt on the Giza plateau where another sphinx may be buried and not yet discovered. As we all know, the sphinx as seen today has the body of a lion, and between the front legs is a “Dream Stele,” which has two lions depicted at the top. APPARENTLY NO ONE ELSE EXCEPT GERRY HAD NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT HAND FACE OF THE LION has the features of a female, while the one on the left has male features on the face. Two lions facing back to back was common on many hieroglyphs found in Egypt. The sphinx we see today, would have to have been carved far back in the past out of natural rock in order for the erosion marks on its back to have occurred when there were many years of tropical downpours, or when the sea washed heavy waves over the Giza plateau. In modern times the plateau has become a desert, and when the sand was removed years ago, the sphinx we see today became visible. Another reason for the erosion on the sphinx, compared with little or none on the pyramids, is because the sphinx is located about 60 meters lower on the ground than the pyramids where water would have stayed longer when the plateau flooded.
At one time in the past, the Giza plateau’s climate was fertile or perhaps even tropical, quite different than it appears today. The bedrock the sphinx is carved out of would have to have been visible in order to calculate the size of the sphinx to be carved. If that’s the case, then it would have been thousands of years before the ancient Egyptians were there; perhaps before the onset of the last great ice age. Such a time was at least 12,500 years ago. Mainstream Egyptologists have gone to great lengths to discredit such a time frame. In that tourism is a big industry in Egypt, I believe that the current Egyptians would have a problem with some of the modern day thinking that the pyramids were not built by Egyptians. That would change the course of their history and discredit their writings about those monuments. Therefore, I’m looking forward to reading some of the research Gerry has done on these topics in his book, and will approach it with an open mind, hopefully continuing to stay in contact with him. This and other information will be revealed in Gerry’s new forthcoming book, “The Giza Plateau Secrets and a Second Sphinx Revealed.”
Many other researchers and archaeologists believe the sphinx was a guardian to the pyramids and that it is older than the pyramids. Gerry said, “Not so.” The pyramids would have to have been built prior to the sphinx. You can’t guard something that’s not there.
Apart from the erosion as being evidential in dating the sphinx, Robert Bauval has been able to put a date on the building of the three Giza pyramids, as their positioning would only have been exactly the same as that of the stars in Orion’s Belt around the year 10,450 BC, and this agrees closely with the time when flood waters or tropical rains washed the sphinx. In Gerry’s book, a whole chapter is dedicated to the Orion constellation and its connection to other pyramids and ancient sites around the world. The alignment of the three pyramids on the Giza plateau has not been challenged as resembling the stars in Orion’s Belt.
Another topic Gerry has written about is ancient synthetic concrete on the Giza plateau. Again, this drew my attention since I wrote an editorial about this in May, 2010 archived on my web site, titled, “Building the Pyramids of Giza.”
Gerry’s other book, “Arkquest,” is currently being edited for publication, and should prove as interesting as his work on the pyramids and sphinx. Gerry stated that this book will not be a work of fiction, but a story of recognizable timeline, with lots of verifiable historical facts.
I feel fortunate to have been contacted by the gentleman living in Spain, and it shows the marvels of the Internet, where a researcher today can generate the interest of another researcher half way around the world with the simple clicks of a computer keyboard. It’s truly amazing and I look forward to obtaining more information as we both “Search for the Truth.”
